FAQ’s

Do I need to be already physically fit?

No – but you should be committed to improving your health and fitness. We’re here to help you get fit!

All levels of fitness and ages are catered for, and we have a very even split of men and women of all ages so no matter who you are or where you are at, you will fit right in.

What does a Fortitude Fitness class entail?

  • If you come to one of our HSF venues you can expect to be lifting weights in a small group, completely scalable to your current strength/ability and if you are new to this type of training you will be encouraged to ‘go light’ and develop the skills needed to then go heavier.
  • If you come to one of our OTM venues you can expect to be running around an open public space in a large group, scalable to your current level/ability via our Blue/Red/Green (easy/challenging/advanced) colour bib system. If you are new or rusty to this type of training, we will start you off in Blues and advise you to take it very steady to begin with.

Our OTM classes follow a phased format covering a warmup, strength/endurance, high cardio (i.e. HIIT) and steady state cardio to empty the tank at the end.

No two OTM classes are the same!

What should I wear? Bring?

“Dress for the second mile” is a saying we use, suggesting you should be dressed slightly on the cool side at the start of the class, you will quickly get warm and will stay warm till the end.

Dress as though you were going out for a run in the current climate.

Gloves are always recommended, but not essential.

Sensible footwear, well tied laces, suitable for a mix of terrain.

In terms of what to bring – as little as possible, you might want a towel or a warm layer to put on afterwards, or some water to drink if it’s a hot day.

Keys and essential valuables are placed in a zipped bag and carried around by your instructor.

Is there a minimum age?

Not really, however:

  • For a minor to attend alone they must be 18 or over.
  • Any minor under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.

If the minor is quite young the accompanying adult must be able to vouch for their capacity to get through the class and be prepared to cut their own class short if their minor stops.

Should I check with my doctor before I go to a class?

In most cases no, but if you have a history of any medical reasons for why you should be cautious then yes.

Of course ladies who are pregnant or anybody on heart or BP medication should check with their GP.

What happens in bad weather?

Your session will always go ahead as long as there are people booked on.  If it is cold and wet we modify the classes to prioritise keeping the group warm and moving and we keep everybody off the floor.

Will I be shouted at?

No you won’t, however our instructors do need to project their voices to be heard when explaining and demonstrating exercises.

Can I pause my membership?

Absolutely! Though not by yourself, you can place your membership on hold at any point by simply asking your instructor or venue manager to do so.

There are no fees for this.

Can I continue exercising if I’m pregnant?

You can continue training in a way you are well accustomed with, but you will naturally lower your training intensity.

It is not wise to start training in a way you are not familiar with nor is it a good idea to cause oxygen debt within your body.

If in doubt ask your GP or speak in person to your Venue Manager.

Am I tied into a long contract?

Our ‘rolling’ membership has an initial three-month commitment from you during which you can trigger your end of term cancellation yourself or ask your Venue Manager to trigger it.

After an initial three months you are able to cancel at any point with just a seven-day notice.
